I have no destination, no map, and no expectations...my only hope is to fully experience what this form of expression yields.

Dance always finds me just when I need her the most...

I am so very excited to begin dancing again. It's been too long. I had a re-introduction of sorts recently doing some African dancing with friends for Man Ray Day. This was a day-long festival celebrating the artist Man Ray. An exhibit of his work was featured at the University and the festival included drumming, dancing, arts and crafts, and delicious food.

But about the dancing...it first started out just me and another woman who had taken classes with the wife of the main or lead drummer. We rehearsed with the drummers for three Wednesdays and met on our own outside of that practice time for some more practice. My body felt the absence of dance, or any kind of workout for that matter. To my surprise, some other friends joined in, one that just so happoened to be visiting from California. It was such a good time. I will post a picture of us when I get it.
We (the dancers) alternated with the drummers and danced to everyother song. We did a total of four dances, each on lasting about five minutes (but it felt much longer in the heat.) Oh yes, did I forget to mention that we were under a tent outside from noon to three. We danced three sets with four dances in each set. My body was electric with lactic acid. I did not stretch sufficiently. But I did get some wonderful massage from my love and my muscles were happy after that.
Dances:
Sinte
Kakilambe
Manjani
CouCou

I may even post a video of us dancing if I can figure out how to transfer it to my laptop.

Blessings,
me
